| Corolla's wild horses have been recognized by the State
of North Carolina as a significant historical and cultural resourse.
Scientific studies link today's herd to Spanish origins and show that
the horses, due to their isolation over the past 400 years, have become
a breed unto themselves. The following snapshots of the wild horses
roaming the Northern Outer Banks and village of Corolla not only reveal
their sparse habitat, but also some of the challenges facing volunteers
of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund. |
